Fall

Leaves are floating softly down.
Flutter fingers.
They make a carpet on the ground.
Then, swish! The wind comes whirling by
Rapidly bring hands around.
And sends them dancing to the sky.
Flutter fingers up.

Something for Nothing: Giveaway Tuesday

One of the benefits of being pregnant and on restricted activity is plenty of time to surf the internet… or is that a disadvantage? Regardless, I’ve been having fun entering giveaways and won two last week! I hit the motherlode and won one of the baby shower giveaways on Making the World Cuter, and I won this great little snack and activity tray on Thanks, Mail Carrier! Here are some giveaways you might want to enter.

Anna and Essie is giving away a $25 Target Gift Certificate. I’m sure you can think of something to use it on! She also makes soy and beeswax candles, so be sure to check it out.

YMCA: What do you have against breastfeeding?

Do a simple search on Google and you can find multiple incidents of YMCAs across the nation discriminating against breastfeeding women. It’s absolutely ridiculous, and it’s time they stopped. Their justification for this discrimination usually takes one of two tacts– either they claim it violates their “no eating in the *insert area here* rule,” or they claim that it violates their dress code because the mother is showing her midriff. Nonsense. Sometimes it’s prompted by a complaint by another member, to which I say, too bad. If you don’t want to see someone breastfeeding in public, don’t watch. We nursing mothers would actually probably prefer not to be stared at by complete strangers. But more often than not, it’s an uneducated employee who presumes to speak for the masses and the innocent children by claiming “no one wants to see that.”

Got pics?

Do you have photos of you and your family enjoying activities from Seasons of Joy Autumn? Pictures of finished projects you’d like to share? Pictures of your nature table? I’d love to see them! Please consider either sending pictures to frontzfamily@gmail(dot)com, linking to a picture in the comments (be sure to leave an email so I can contact you!), or visiting our Facebook page and posting pictures there. You can also post pictures in your own Facebook album and tag “Seasons of Joy”.

Thanks for sharing the joy!

Wordless Wednesday: First Day of Preschool

Katie Grace: Grade Four

Fourth grade this year looks a bit different than a couple years ago. I’m neither able to be up and about supervising complex projects, nor am I able to run around town picking up tons of supplies, so we’re making do with a more traditional curriculum. I do still hope to hit on some of the typical Waldorf main lesson content for fourth grade– specifically Norse mythology, man and animal (including some beginning animal taxonomy), local and state studies, and a focused study of fractions and measurement in addition to other fourth grade math skills. But it’s not going to look like a Waldorf main lesson block.

A Day in the Life: It may not look pretty, but we’re doing it

It’s hard to manage a household from the couch.

Of course, I’m not always sitting on the couch with my feet up. Sometimes I am lying down in bed.

Still, when I look back over the past few months, I am kind of amazed at what we’ve accomplished.

I put together two portfolios, got two children evaluated and standardized tested, turned everything into the school district with a day to spare, and got a letter assuring me we were compliant with the law and my children appear to be receiving an appropriate education.

Giveaway Tuesday!

I haven’t done this for a while, but I wanted to share some fun giveaways from around the web. Be sure to sign up for a chance to win some great stuff!

Over at “It’s Really Only a Purple World” there’s a giveaway for a pair of warm and fuzzy slipper socks from Aroma Home. She has lots of different ways to win, so be sure to check it out.
