Question of the Week: Holiday Memories

,

What are your favorite holiday memories?

Because of everything that’s been going on, we haven’t been able to do a lot of our usual Advent and Christmas traditions this year. One tradition we did keep, however, was to get our Christmas tree on our anniversary, December 17. Well, almost. Due to a vomitous flu (must be Christmas time!) we waited until Saturday to get and decorate the tree. I still don’t have a whole lot of energy, and I sat on the sofa, holding and nursing babies. The older kids took turns holding babies as well.

It’s hard for a control freak like me to just sit back and let the rest of the family do their thing, but as they each sifted through their own boxes of ornaments I realized how much those past traditions meant to them. Every ornament had a special memory and the children loved hearing the stories behind them.

And I realized that while the traditions and the activities and the busy-ness are nice, it’s the memories behind them that really count. I think spending the Christmas home with my family and my babies will be one of my favorite Christmas memories for a long time.

Merry Christmas!

“And I realized that while the traditions and the activities and the busy-ness are nice, it’s the memories behind them that really count.” As usual, my wise friend, you have said exactly the right thing :-)
