Fairy Tale Friday: The Snow Maiden

The Snow Maiden
If you have snow, you may wish to go outside and make your own snowbaby or snowmaiden.
This site shows you how to build a beautiful snowlantern:

Snow Painting
Saturate hot water with salt. Let the water cool, and have the child use the salt water to paint on black paper. Then after it dries, have the child look at the crystals of salt on the paper.

Tortilla snowflakes are fun- heat them until they are just warm, and then fold as if you are making snowflakes. Cut with CLEAN kitchen scissors. For an extra treat you can sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Circle Time Fun
Winter
Blow, North Wind, blow,
All the leaves are falling;
Cold, frost, and snow
Winter comes a-calling.
Mother Nature sleeps now,
All the earth is bare;
Deep in the ground
She guards her treasure rare.

The More it Snows by A. A. Milne
The more it snows
Tiddly Pom
The more it goes
Tiddly Pom
The more it goes
Tiddly Pom
On Snowing

And nobody knows
Tiddly Pom
How cold my toes
Tiddly Pom
How cold my toes
Tiddly Pom
Are growing.

Five Little Snowflakes
Five little snowflakes
Flying by my door
One blew away
And then there were four.
Four little snowflakes
Falling down on me
One blew away
And then there were three.
Three little snowflakes
Falling down on you
One blew away
And then there were two.
Two little snowflakes
Having lots of fun
One blew away
And then there was one.
One little snowflake
Sitting in the sun
It melted away
And then there were none.

Tchaikovsky wrote a ballet based on this fairy tale. You may wish to listen to the music and dance.
