The first time I ever heard this quote, I was watching the awesomely amazing movie Akeelah and the Bee. It’s a wonderful movie about a 13-year-old girl from South LA who tries to make it in the National Spelling Bee. Definitely a worthwhile movie and I highly recommend it.
Akeelah meets with her mentor, and he has her read this quote out loud.
What does it mean?
I’m not supposed to be afraid.
Afraid of what?
…Me…
It’s a powerful moment, and one I was reminded of the other day when I was struggling.
Who are you? Who am I?
We are children of God, made in His image and shining with His own light.
What dragon can possibly stand in the face of that?
